Jura & Trois-Lacs

Discover the Jura & Three-Lakes region from Hotel Beaulac

Just a few steps from the shores of Lake Neuchâtel lies one of Switzerland’s most stunning regions: the Jura & Three-Lakes area. Between clear blue lakes, unspoilt landscapes and picturesque historic towns, it’s the perfect destination for nature lovers, hikers and culture enthusiasts alike.

Located right by the lake, Hotel Beaulac is the ideal starting point to explore the region at your own pace. Here’s a suggested three-day itinerary to make the most of your stay.

Between lake and mountains: on the Chasseral ridge

A short train ride from Neuchâtel to Saint-Imier takes you to the Chasseral Regional Nature Park. Rising to 1,607 metres, the Chasseral peak is one of the most famous viewpoints in the region. From here you can admire the three lakes — Neuchâtel, Murten and Biel, the Swiss Alps, and even the French Jura on a clear day.

A 5-hour hike along the Chasseral ridge offers spectacular views in every direction. The trail is well marked, accessible from spring onwards and suitable for both families and more experienced walkers.

A well-deserved break in a Métairie

Along the way, traditional métairies — small farm restaurants typical of the Jura — welcome hikers with hearty local dishes: crispy rösti, local cheeses, cured meats and the famous cream-filled horn for dessert. These places are open from May to August and are a beloved part of the local culture.

👉 From Hotel Beaulac, Saint-Imier is about 50 minutes away by train.

Step back in time in Saint-Ursanne

On your second day, head to Saint-Ursanne, a charming medieval town on the banks of the Doubs River. Recognised as one of Switzerland’s most beautiful villages, it offers a peaceful atmosphere and remarkably preserved architecture.

The train journey from Neuchâtel via Biel takes around two hours. Once there, everything is best explored on foot: cobblestone streets, timber-framed houses, an 18th-century stone bridge and a Romanesque collegiate church.

To make the visit even more memorable:

  • Take a canoe trip on the Doubs (½ day, suitable for beginners)

  • Go for a bike ride along the river

  • Follow a themed walking tour with a digital key to unlock hidden sites

A truly enchanting blend of history and nature.

Lakeside relaxation in Murten and Biel

To end your stay, enjoy a relaxing day by the Murten and Biel lakes, two scenic gems easily reached by train or boat from Neuchâtel.

In Murten, a beautifully preserved small town, you can stroll along the old ramparts, wander through arcaded streets or enjoy a coffee in the sun on the main square. Biel has a livelier, more urban feel with museums, terraces and lakeside walks.

Many companies offer combined boat cruises connecting the three lakes — a peaceful and memorable way to return to Neuchâtel at the end of the day.

A perfect stay at Hotel Beaulac

After a day of discoveries, Hotel Beaulac is the perfect place to unwind: dinner at the Lake Side Restaurant, a cocktail at the Waves Rooftop Bar, or simply a quiet evening with a lake view.
