Rooms with a Balcony in Neuchâtel: Which Category to Actually Book

Superior, Deluxe, Executive. These words are hotel trade jargon, not descriptions, and they mean something different in every country. A Deluxe in one city is a standard room with a kettle; in another it is a suite. So when a booking engine shows you seven categories at the Hôtel Beaulac on Lake Neuchâtel, the question is not which sounds grandest but what physically changes between them. The answer is floor, orientation and outdoor space, and this article sets it out category by category so you book the right one first time at beaulac.ch.

What every room has

Before comparing, it helps to know what does not vary. The hotel has ninety-six rooms, and every category shares the same baseline.

  • Swiss ELITE bedding with Ecolabel certification. A specification detail until the first night, after which it is the only detail that matters.
  • A rain shower in every bathroom.
  • A minibar and a Nespresso machine.
  • A welcome tray on arrival.

So you are not paying for a better bed or better coffee when you move up a category. You are paying for the view, the space and access to the outside.

The four room categories

Comfort. The entry category, in the part of the building whose design follows the architectural principles of Le Corbusier: neutral colours, geometric forms, restrained lines. For a single night, a business trip or a stop on a longer journey, it does the job. If the architecture interests you, our article on Le Corbusier, born in La Chaux-de-Fonds in this canton, explains where the influence comes from.

Superior. The first real choice of orientation. These rooms face either the lake and the Alps or the old town. State your preference when booking, because it is not assigned automatically. This is the category where “lake view” means what it says: across the water, with the peaks behind it.

Deluxe. The answer to the most common question, which is about a room with a balcony. The Deluxe rooms face the lake and have spacious balconies above the water, in a quiet private wing of the hotel. If you are looking for a hotel with a balcony in Neuchâtel, this is the category to ask for by name, not the Superior, whose lake view does not come with the same outdoor access.

Executive. On the top floor, facing the lake or the old town, with a rooftop terrace. The compromise between a room and a suite: you gain the height and the outdoor space without paying for a separate sitting room you may not use.

The three suites, and what each is for

Choosing, in three questions

Rather than a comparison table, three questions will settle it.

  • Do you want outdoor space? If yes: Deluxe for a balcony above the water, Executive for a rooftop terrace. If not, the other categories are fine.
  • How many nights? One night, Comfort or Superior is enough. Three or more, a separate sitting area genuinely changes the stay, so Junior Suite at minimum.
  • Is the room for anything besides sleeping? Hosting, working, eating: Suite or Large Suite.

Booking the right category

The rule is short: a lake view does not mean a balcony, and the balcony is the Deluxe. For a stay as a couple, our articles on a romantic break in Neuchâtel deal with the trip as a whole. For a business trip with a meeting attached, the article on hiring a meeting room is the companion to this one.
